A Controversial Victory
The coronation night was as electric as it was divisive. While Mexican supporters celebrated wildly, the local Thai audience expressed frustration, with some fans chanting **"cooking show"** (pageant slang for a rigged result) after local favorite Praveenar Singh of Thailand was named first runner-up.
Despite allegations of favoritism and the resignation of two judges prior to the final, Bosch has remained unbothered. Recently, in February 2026, she took to social media to shut down rumors of her resignation, asserting, "I earned this crown and this sash through effort and commitment."
Fátima Bosch’s reign is set to be one of the most talked-about in history, defined by her commitment to authenticity and her refusal to be "just a doll."
In a historic and high-stakes finale in Bangkok, Thailand, Fátima Bosch Fernández was crowned **Miss Universe 2025** on November 21, becoming the fourth Mexican woman to hold the prestigious title. Her victory, however, was about much more than a crown; it became a global symbol of resilience after a series of public confrontations that turned her into a viral sensation long before the final night.
A Journey of Resilience: From Tabasco to the WorldBorn on May 19, 2000, in Teapa, Tabasco, Fátima Bosch (25) is no stranger to the spotlight or struggle. Growing up, she faced significant bullying due to **ADHD and dyslexia**, challenges she now credits for shaping her strong character and empathy. A graduate in **Fashion and Apparel Design** from the Universidad Iberoamericana—with additional training in Milan and Vermont—Bosch has spent nearly a decade volunteering with children battling cancer, balancing her creative career with deep humanitarian roots.
Her pageant career began locally as "Flor Tabasco" in 2018, but her ascent was rapid in 2025 when she became the first woman from her state to win Miss Universe Mexico.
The road to the 2025 crown was paved with unprecedented drama. During a pre-pageant sashing ceremony in Bangkok, Bosch was publicly reprimanded by Thai national director Nawat Itsaragrisil. He reportedly called her **"dumb"** for allegedly not following social media promotional guidelines.
In a moment that captivated millions, Bosch refused to be silenced. She stood her ground, stating:
*"If it takes away your dignity, you need to go."*
Her subsequent walkout was joined by several other contestants, including the reigning Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjær Theilvig, in a massive show of solidarity. This display of "quiet strength" transformed Bosch from a contestant into a frontrunner for many who viewed her as a champion for women’s rights.
Thailand is set to host the Miss Universe 2025 competition, generating excitement in the country. Recently, Veena Praveenar Singh was selected as Miss Universe Thailand 2025. Veena Praveenar Singh competed for the Miss Universe Thailand Saraburi provincial title and won, securing her place at the national competition. Ketwalee Phobdee was named first runner-up. Notably, this marks Singh’s fourth attempt at vying for the Miss Universe Thailand crown.
Veena Praveenar Singh (born 16 April 1996) is an Indian/thai model born in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She won Miss Universe Saraburi 2025 and is set to compete in Miss Universe Thailand 2025. Prior to this, she competed at Miss Universe Thailand three times in 2018, 2020 and in 2023 gaining the placement of 2nd Runner- Up, 1st Runner-Up and 2nd Runner-Up again respectively.
However, the pageant scene in Thailand has also been marked by a recent controversy. Suchata "Opal" Chuangsri, who was Miss Universe Thailand 2024 and placed as the 3rd runner-up at Miss Universe 2024, was recently crowned Miss World Thailand 2025. Following this, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) announced that Chuangsri had been stripped of her Miss Universe 2024 3rd runner-up title.
The MUO stated that this decision was due to her participation in another pageant before completing her reign and that this action violated their protocols. This unprecedented move has caused quite a stir in the Thai pageant community and among international pageant fans.
