Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu was born on 3 March 2000 and is an Indian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe 2021. Sandhu was previously crowned Miss Diva Universe 2021, and is the third player from India to win Miss Universe. Sandhu was born in Kohli village of Gurdaspur district of Punjab, close to Batala town, to parents Pritampal Singh Sandhu and Ravindra Kaur Sandhu. Her father is a Realtor and her mother is a Gynecologist. He also has an elder brother named Harnoor. Sandhu was brought up in a Jat Sikh family.
In 2006, the family moved to England, where Sandhu grew up, before returning to India two years later and settling in Chandigarh. She attended Shivalik Public School and Post Graduate Government College for Girls in Chandigarh. Before becoming Miss Universe, Sandhu was pursuing a master's degree in Public Administration. Apart from his mother tongue Punjabi, Sandhu is proficient in Hindi and English.
Sandhu started participating in competition as a teenager, winning titles like Miss Chandigarh 2017 and Miss Max Emerging Star India 2018. At first, Sandhu did not tell his father when hregistered for his first pageant, and only then informed him about his participation.
